Tebet holds anti-sweeping call

JAKARTA: Residents of Tebet in South Jakarta along with local administration and security authorities held a gathering on Friday to make a stand against sweeping campaigns on foreigners, reports said.

The people also pledged to protect the foreigners living in Tebet area, private television station SCTV reported.

Tebet is home to many expatriates.

Americans, British nationals as well as Japanese and Dutch expatriates were among the foreigners staying in Tebet area.

"We want to make sure that no further hostile acts take place following the anti-U.S. rallies, which have already going too far," a resident was quoted by the station as saying.--JP
