Teater Mandiri to perform in Cairo
JAKARTA: Indonesia's leading theater group is taking part in an international theater festival in Cairo, the Egyptian Ambassador to Indonesia Mohamed E. Taha said in Jakarta.
"Teater Mandiri is participating in the 17th Cairo International Festival For Experimental Theater (CIFET)," Ambassador Taha told The Jakarta Post recently.
"The festival, an annual event, pays tribute every year to pillars of experimental theater all over the world -- playwrights, directors and technicians," the Egyptian embassy said in a press release sent to the Post.
The Indonesian group will perform Zero, a play written and directed by famous Indonesian playwright Putu Wijaya, at the CIFET 2005 in the Egyptian capital, with Putu also acting in the play.
Zero has been performed in Taipei, Jakarta, Bandung and Malang.
The embassy said the CIFET, which began on Sept. 20, would continue until Sept. 30, 2005. -- JP
