Team set up to probe officials' wealth

JAKARTA (JP): The Attorney General's Office has formed a team, headed by Deputy Attorney General for Civil and State Administrative Courts Soehanjono, to investigate the wealth of current and past government officials.

"The results (of the investigation) of officials from both the central and provincial governments will be announced to the public," the office's spokesman, Barman Zahir, said yesterday.

He did not elaborate on when the investigation results would be announced.

The offices of the attorney general, the chief public prosecutor and public prosecutors have already asked the public to provide information on the wealth of officials through P.O. Box 777 to help the team in its investigation.

"P.O. Box 777 has been opened and placed at the offices of the attorney general, the chief public prosecutor and all public prosecutors in the country," Zahir said as quoted by Antara.

This is expected to make it easier for the public to present information or preliminary evidence on the wealth of serving and former officials.

Deputy Attorney General Ismudjoko SH had previously asked all public prosecutor offices throughout the country to open the post office box address. The public should use this to provide any information on the wealth of officials, Zahir said. (mds)
