Team finds victims executed by rebels

JAYAPURA: The remains of five civilians allegedly killed by members of the Free Papua Movement (OPM) separatist group two weeks ago were found on Sunday by soldiers and police.

The team had found five incomplete skeletons, which they said appeared to have been burned, military commander Col. Inf. Tri Usadi told The Jakarta Post

The skeletons were found at the Tinggi Nambut village, about a kilometer away from the site where vehicles driven by the victims were found.

Police believe the group was led by OPM leader Goliath Tabumi.

"Only two skulls are unimpaired. It seems they were shot and brought to this location to be burnt," he said.

The bodies were taken to the Mulia hospital in Puncak Jaya to be formally identified. --JP
