Teak forest burnt

SEMARANG, Central Java: A fire has occurred in the teak forest which covers an area of 460 hectares in Blora, but no serious damages have been reported.

Spokesman for the Central Java Forestry Office Toto TS Oedjoe said the fire early this month only affected the leaves of the trees, most of which are 10 years old.

He said the fire was quickly extinguished because forests rangers stayed alert. The local people also lent their hands to stop the fire, Antara reported. (pan)
