Teachers want to leave E. Timor
BANDUNG, West Java: Hundreds of teachers posted in East Timor have called on the government to relocate them, citing fears of violence and unrest.
Indra Djati Sidi, the director general for elementary and secondary education at the Ministry of Education and Culture, said on Monday that the teachers, none of whom were native to the troubled province, felt they were unable to concentrate on their work because of threats and intimidation by locals.
"Most teachers have requested transfers home," Indra said. (43/29)
