Teacher detained for murder

MEDAN, North Sumatra: The police have detained a lecturer and three of his students, all of whom are under suspicion for the brutal killing of his lover.

The lecturer, whom the police identify as MP, is believed to have masterminded the murder of Heni Silalahi, a student at Nommensen University.

In preliminary questioning, MP admitted to having killed Heni because she had threatened to reveal their love affair to his wife, after he broke his promise to give her a "good mark" in exchange for sex.

Chief of the Medan city police, Col. Chairuddin Ismail, said that the three suspects murdered Heni on Nov. 6 in a sugar-cane plantation near here, Antara reported.

They gang-raped her before strangling her to death he said. (pan)
