TB hits villagers

JAYAPURA, Irian Jaya: Hundreds of Nafri villagers have contracted tuberculosis and are in need of serious medical attention, Antara quoted a health worker as saying on Wednesday.

Dr. Agung H. said in Jayapura that he and his team discovered the epidemic while providing free medical services over the past six months. He said he was worried more would become infected due to poor hygiene in the area.

Nafri village is only 25 kilometers away from Jayapura, the capital of Irian Jaya. It has a population of 1,000, many of whom also have malaria, skin diseases and bronchitis. (swe)
