Tax collection team formed

The West Jakarta administration has formed a special team to
tackle the problem of huge arrears in property taxes in the
mayoralty in the just concluded fiscal year, which totaled Rp
16billion (US$ 8million).

"The team's main task is to collect taxes from errant
taxpayers," said Aritonang, the section head of administrative
affairs at the mayor's office.

Aritonang said at least 247,245 taxpayers in the mayoralty had
yet to pay their property taxes in the 1993/94 fiscal year, which
ended in March.

Last year West Jakarta mayoralty administration received only
Rp 17billion from property taxes of a target of Rp 33billion.

This year's target of revenue from property taxes for West
Jakarta, set far below last year's figure, is Rp 25billion.

"Thus far we have collected Rp 5.2 billion," Aritonang said.
