Taufik's release request rejected

JAKARTA: The Jakarta Prosecutor's Office refused to release Jakarta General Elections Commission (KPUD) chairman Muhammad Taufik, who has been detained on graft charges since June 10.

"There is no reason to suspend his detention. Our investigation is not completed," said the head of the prosecutor office's interrogation team, Syaeful Taher, on Tuesday.

Taufik filed a request last week seeking to be released on health reasons. He also said he had given prosecutors all the information they required.

Taufik, who has been named a corruption suspect along with KPUD member A. Riza Patria and KPUD treasurer Neneng Palupi, is being held in the detention center at the South Jakarta Prosecutor's Office. The three are suspects in a corruption case involving about Rp 13 billion.

Syaeful said his team was not sure when Taufik's case file would be submitted to the court. --JP
