Task force hosts illegal TKI
NUNUKAN, East Kalimantan: The Nunukan administration in East Kalimantan province has accommodated since last October some 100 East Nusa Tenggara (NTT) migrant workers (TKI) who were deported by Malaysian authorities because they had no proper immigration documents.
Head of the Nunukan TKI task force Kasmir Foret said recently that the workers were being accommodated by residents around Nunukan, which is located near the Malaysian border town of Tawao.
"They were deported because they had no proper documents. We believed they had not used official passage, because if they had, Nunukan immigration should have their data," he said.
The TKI task force had offered them two options: to return to their hometowns or to try again to work in Malaysia. If they chose the latter, the local government would train them in skills needed by companies in the neighboring country.
The East Nusa Tenggara workers are not the only group being accommodated by the TKI task force. The task force has also accommodated migrant workers from various parts of Indonesia who have either returned to their hometowns or were provided skills training courses. -- JP
