Tap water pipes clogged

KENDARI, S.E. Sulawesi: Thousands of residents have experienced over the past week a shortage of clean water because pipelines have been clogged by unknown people.

Mayor Masie Abunawas confirmed the problem and said he had ordered the local water company to repair the system.

The company processed water from Anduonuhu River in Poasia district. The pipe that connected the spring to a water reservoir had been found to be clogged with rocks.

Abunawas deplored the vandalism, as did residents who had to use poor quality water from various wells in the area. (swe)
