Tansil causing trouble again?
JAKARTA (JP): A man reported to the police yesterday that he saw the jailbird Eddy Tansil in a car which hit his scooter from behind on Jl. Salemba, in Central Jakarta.
Hendra, who works for a private firm, told the Central Jakarta Police Precinct that Tansil was in a red Corolla sedan when the car hit his scooter, according to a police officer who requested anonymity.
"The car sped away when I expressed surprise at who was sitting in the back seat," the officer quoted Hendra as saying.
Hendra, a resident of Jl. Kayu Putih, East Jakarta, showed the police his damaged scooter.
The officer said that Hendra's report is being studied.
The 42-year-old Tansil escaped from Cipinang penitentiary on the evening of May 4.
Some believe he is in Hong Kong.
The prison head, Mintardjo, has been fired for failing to anticipate the escape and for not reporting that Tansil was missing immediately.
The escape of Eddy Tansil prompted public revulsion all over the country. Some student organizations have held demonstrations demanding that those responsible for the jailbreak resign from their positions. (jun)
