Tanjung Priok bloody incident commemorated

JAKARTA (JP): Hundreds of Tanjung Priok residents joined on Thursday the 15th anniversary of the Sept. 12, 1984, bloody incident in the area.

No clashes occurred during the commemoration, which began with a lecture and followed with a rally to North Jakarta Police Headquarters.

More than 500 police and military personnel were deployed to help secure the procession.

After arriving in front of the police precinct, some of the younger participants burned a fiberglass replica of Gen. (ret.) L.B. Moerdani, who they said was responsible for the incident, which left at least 18 killed, 53 wounded and 412 people missing. (bsr)
