Tangerang teachers to get late pay

TANGERANG: About 1,500 of around 4,000 contract teachers in Tangerang, Banten, who have not received their salaries for the past three months will be paid on Sept. 15, an official says.

The head of the Tangerang Education Agency, Muhyi Syarifudin, said the administration only had Rp 6 billion (US$588,235) to pay the salaries of teachers at private schools.

"The other 2,500 teachers will receive their salaries after the administration receives school operational assistance (from the central government) in late September," he said as quoted by Tempointeraktif.com.

Muhyi said the 1,500 teachers would receive their salaries through state bank BRI.

Several councillors have expressed concern about the delay in paying the teachers.

"This type of delay should not happen because the funds have been disbursed," said Sobri, a members of City Council's Commission B for economic affairs. --JP
