Tangerang students get holiday

TANGERANG: As 10 of the 25 schools in Tangerang were deluged last week, students had to stay at home, waiting for the water to recede. They began to return to school on Tuesday.

"Most students are still cleaning the mud and rubbish from their respective schools," said Tangerang municipal education agency chief Nana Sukarna, on Wednesday.

During the one-week flood that in certain areas in Tangerang reached a depth of two meters, seven elementary and three junior high schools closed.

The seven elementary schools comprised state schools SDN 5 in Petir, SDN Gebang Raya in Jatiuwung, SDN Periuk Raya Permai and SDN Perum Taman Cibodas and private schools Total Persada, Kuncup Mekar and Baitul Akham.

The three junior high schools were SLTPN 11 Larangan, SLTPN 15 Pondok Arum and SLTPN 18 Perum Cipondoh. -- JP
