Tangerang officials threaten to resign

TANGERANG (JP): Ten subdistrict heads and a district secretary have sent letters to Tangerang Mayor Djakaria Mahmud threatening to resign if the Tangerang district head is not dismissed.

The protesters have accused the Tangerang district head, Mulyadi Sieska, of being arrogant, very cruel and involved in nepotistic practices.

"Mulyadi only thinks about money and he always boasts that he has a close relationship with Mayor Djakaria Mahmud," one of the protesters was quoted by Antara as saying Thursday.

The protesters are Subhan Sukanta of Gerendeng subdistrict, Suli Rosali of Margasari, Sapawi of Bugel, Emma Rahmawati of Pabuaran Tumpeng, Sentot Alibasya of Babakan, Yusuf Salahudin of Kowang Jaya, Santoso of Karawaci Baru, Harry Sudibyo of Kelapa Indah, A.M. Airin of Sumur Pacing, Yoyo Rakhmat of Buaran Indah and Rahmad Hendrawijaya, the district secretary.

Copies of the officials' letters were sent to the Ministry of Home Affairs, the West Java governor's office, the Tangerang Police chief, the Tangerang military district chief and the Tangerang prosecutor's office.

"If the district head is not dismissed, we resign," the protesting official said.

Suparman, an assistant to the mayoralty's administrative affairs office, said such resignations could damage the reputation of all civil servants.

Suparman accused the protesters of having no loyalty to the civil servants corps.

"If they resign together, it means that they are not sensible. They are just stupid subdistrict heads," Suparman said.

Separately, Mulyadi Sieska said that the officials had every right to resign. "But it's the governor's authority, through the mayor, to replace me," he added. (jun)
