Tangerang lacks school teachers

TANGERANG: Tangerang regency needs at least 3,450 more teachers as it has only 4,500 of them for its 1,076 elementary schools in 26 districts.

Regent Agus Djunara said on Thursday that the lack of teachers hampered efforts to improve education.

"An elementary school ideally should have at least 10 teachers comprising the principal, six regular teachers and three teachers for sports, English and religion respectively," he told reporters at SD 03/04 state elementary school complex in Lengkong Wetan village, Serpong, Tangerang.

The regent was attending the handover ceremony of a new library with 500 books and a scholarship from the Foundation for the Development of Indonesian Children. -- JP
