Tangerang gets new military chief
TANGERANG (JP): Lt. Col. Hadi Prasodjo was appointed chief of Tangerang military district, replacing Lt. Col. Meris Wiryadi in a handover ceremony led by Wijayakrama Military Commander Col. Tritamtomo on Monday.
Meris will be appointed district chief of the Central Jakarta military.
"I haven't got detailed plans or schemes but I've been watching the coastal area here for the past three months," said newly appointed chief Hadi.
Hadi Prasodjo was formerly chief of the operations unit of Wijayakarta Military Command, which supervises the eastern part of the greater Jakarta area. Wijayakrama Military Command supervises areas in the western part of greater Jakarta area.
After the ceremony, outgoing chief Meris also explained to reporters the recent shooting of a local resident named Aris, 22, by First Sgt. Ismail of the Teluk Naga military subdistrict.
Aris, who was in a comma due to the gunshot wound in his back, was involved in a quarrel with Ismail on Friday after the military officer accused the resident of hitting his motorbike on Jl. Prabu Siliwangi in Kampung Gembor, Jatiuwung.
"Ismail went mad and later shot Aris. He is currently being detained and interrogated by the military police," Meris said. (41/edt)
