Tanah Kusir park rehabilitated

JAKARTA (JP): A newly rehabilitated public park in Tanah Kusir, South Jakarta, will be handed over on Saturday to the Jakarta administration and the people living in the neighborhood.

Josephine Satyono, an officer from the General Electric Elfun Society Indonesia, which initiated the rehabilitation, said the facilities included a play ground for children and a jogging track around the park.

Undertaken in cooperation with the City Parks Agency, the rehabilitation, which started last month, involved many volunteers, school students and people from the surrounding area, she said.

According to Josephine, the 3,600-square-meter park was owned by the City Parks Agency, and was initially part of the city's bank of green spaces. However, the park's trees had been felled as the city administration planned to construct a flyover in the area a couple of years ago.

The flyover construction project was then halted, leaving the park neglected. (04)
