Tall trees pruned in Mataram

MATARAM, West Nusa Tenggara: Mataram Mayor Moh. Ruslan, said on Tuesday that the municipal administration would prune tall trees selectively in the city in an anticipation of cyclones during the rainy season.

"This decision is made in response to the warning by the local office of the Meteorological and Geophysics Agency (BMG) that tall trees may fall due to cyclones or typhoons," he said.

The mayor also said all trees along Jl. Langko and Jl. Pejangkrik that were more than 30 years old should not be slashed because they gave a special character to the city.

"Only big and tall trees at risk of falling during typhoons or cyclones will be pruned," he said.

Last year, a number of tall trees fell, damaging power and telephone lines in a number of districts in the city. --Antara
