Talaud to revote in regental poll

MANADO, North Sulawesi: The Talaud Islands is to repeat its regental election following a circular ordering a revote from the Minister of Home Affairs, said AJ Pangkey, spokesman of the North Sulawesi administration.

The circular endorsed a proposal submitted by the Talaud Islands Council asking home minister Hari Sabarno to order a revote, after none of the three candidate pairs contesting the election had garnered a clear majority.

According to regental election regulations, a regent and deputy regent candidate pair must collect more than 50 percent of votes from the 20-strong regental council to win. -- Antara
