Taiwan, Japan to build factories

MEDAN: Three investors from Japan and two from Taiwan plan to develop factories to produce road material and organic fertilizer in North Sumatra.

The construction of the factories will start as soon as suitable locations have been found, said a spokeswoman for the investors, Jeanne S.C. Wang.

Head of the North Sumatra Investment and Promotion Board, Gandhi Gunawan, declined to specify the value of the investment, but said the investors were ready to cover all of the construction costs.

The road material factory is urgently needed, he said, as there are about 500 kilometers of damaged road along the province's coastal areas. -- JP
