Taipei trade office gets new head

JAKARTA: The Taipei government has appointed David Lin to replace Sui Chi Lin as head of its Economic and Trade Office in Jakarta.

Sui ended his term on Tuesday, while Lin was expected to arrive on Wednesday, the Taipei Economic and Trade Office in Jakarta said in a statement.

The 53-year-old new representative of Taipei's trade mission received his bachelor's degree in commerce from the National Cheng-chi University in Taipei.

He earned a master's degree in commerce from the same university. He continued his studies in Washington D.C., where he earned his Master of Science from Georgetown University's School of Foreign Service.

Lin has served as a staff member at Taiwan's Ministry of Foreign Affairs, as well as third and second secretary at Taiwan's embassy in South Africa.

He was the deputy director general of the Department of European Affairs before being appointed Director General of the Taipei Economic and Cultural Office in Houston, Texas. Subsequent positions were postings as ambassadors to Grenada and St. Vincent.

Prior to his Jakarta posting, Lin was the director general of the Department of European Affairs. -- JP
