Tabloid?

During these troubled times, the "Your Letters" column should receive many readers' comments, so I will keep this letter short.

Mind you, it is due to my fondness for The Jakarta Post that this criticism is being written. After all, I have read your paper for years.

I always admired the neat, clean appearance your paper had. On Nov. 14, one day after Black Friday, I opened your newspaper to find a new front page look. Your usual headline for that sad day was in black graphic form. Very well, I thought, events probably warranted this editorial decision.

However, the very next day (Nov. 15), you did it again -- this time a garish graphic with the words Shock, Grief, Anger.

Is The Jakarta Post turning into a tabloid or what? Do you need eye-catching gimmicks for drivers in traffic to notice your newspaper?

Somehow, dear editors, I was shocked, grieved, and angered by your front page design.
