Syarwan Hamid puts photos on display
JAKARTA (JP): Twenty-five photographers and enthusiasts from the Indonesian Leica Photography Club will hold a joint exhibition at Cahya photo gallery in Central Jakarta beginning on Friday.
According to organizer FX Ratkocodomo of the gallery, each of the 25 members, including Minister of Home Affairs Syarwan Hamid, will display five pictures from their portfolios during the eight-day event. It is the club's first joint exhibition.
"The pictures, 80 percent of which are black-and-white prints, will be offered to visitors at between Rp 1 million (US$143) and Rp 3 million each," Ratkocodomo, who is also a club member, told The Jakarta Post on Tuesday.
Syarwan, a keen shutterbug, has submitted three of his works, he added.
"Two of them are portraits of flowers and the other one is of a tree. All of the subjects were taken at the Bogor Palace and Bogor Botanical Gardens," Ratkocodomo said, referring to attractions in the city south of here.
All pictures on display measure 30 centimeters by 40 centimeters.
"The theme is free, meaning that each participant could offer any of their works to be displayed," Ratkocodomo said.
The club, he said, was not affiliated with the German producer of Leica cameras.
"We're just photographers who use Leica cameras to take pictures," he added.
The exhibition on the second floor of Menteng Plaza on Jl. H.O.S. Cokroaminoto will be open to the public daily from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. until July 2.
Its official opening will be held on Thursday evening.(bsr)
