Swords for two governors

JAYAPURA, Irian Jaya: The local Trikora Military Command has
decided to bestow the Trikora Swords to the governors of Irian
Jaya and Maluku Jacob Pattipi and Akib Latuconsina for their
commitment to the development of the two provinces.

Trikora Chief Maj. Gen. Tarub, whose jurisdiction covers the
two provinces, said the awards are given because the two men
succeeded in protecting and leading their people.

They are the first civilians to receive the swords which have
traditionally been awarded to military officers.

One sword was presented to Governor Jacob on Monday, and the
other will be handed to Governor Akib on Saturday, according to
