Sutiyoso's office warns of scam

JAKARTA (JP): The city administration warned Jakarta residents on Friday about an illegal lottery in which a Kijang van prize was reportedly from Governor Sutiyoso's office.

"My staffers received phone calls from Jakarta residents asking whether the administration conducted the lottery," city administration spokesman Muhayat said.

He said some of the callers said they had transferred Rp 7 million (US$1,000) to certain bank accounts in order to join the draw.

Muhayat said the callers said they had been offered the information about the draw by a person who claimed to be a city administration official.

"We call on the public not to trust people who are offer such a lottery. If they find people who claim to be city administration officials offering the draw, just report the matter to police," he said. (jun)
