Sutiyoso vows to clamp down on mayoralty KKN
JAKARTA (JP): Governor Sutiyoso vowed on Tuesday to tightly monitor the city's five mayoralties in an attempt to stop collusion, corruption and nepotism in his administration.
Speaking to reporters on the replacement of three of Jakarta's mayors, the governor said close supervision of the mayoralties would help decrease the number of public complaints and further improve public services.
"I have told the new mayor-designates to avoid policies that could harm the interests of the people.
"I also told them that I would closely supervise them," Sutiyoso, who was recently promoted to a three-star Army general, said.
The governor said he had warned the three new executives that they might have to submit reports detailing their private wealth if the central government instructed them to do so.
"If it is required, I'll pioneer it," Sutiyoso said.
The governor will install new mayors for East Jakarta, West Jakarta and South Jakarta in separate ceremonies beginning on Wednesday.
City administration spokesman Kamaludin Santos said the mayors would be replaced because they had come to the end of their five- year term.
The first inauguration ceremony will be held at the East Jakarta mayoralty office on Wednesday during which current Mayor Sudarsono will be replaced by his deputy, Andi Mappaganty.
Sudarsono, who is an active Army colonel, will be posted at Armed Forces Headquarters, the spokesman said.
Sutiyoso will install North Jakarta Deputy Mayor Sarimun Hadisaputra as West Jakarta mayor on Thursday. Sarimum will be replacing Mayor Sutardjianto, who will become head of the city's inspectorate office.
South Jakarta Mayor Pardjoko will officially retire on Monday to make way for his replacement, Deputy Mayor Abdul Mufti.
The city's two other mayors -- Central Jakarta Mayor Andi Subur Abdullah and North Jakarta Mayor Soebagyo -- will not be replaced since they were just assigned to their posts last year, Kamaludin said. (ind)
