Sutiyoso to brief United Nations

JAKARTA (JP): City Governor Sutiyoso is scheduled to address the United Nations (UN) in New York to discuss energy and transportation at the end of this month.

Antara reported that apart from Sutiyoso, the Ugandan minister of energy and the Czech environmental minister will also present a speech during the discussion.

The meeting is part of a 13-day assembly of the UN Sustainable Development Commission which begins on Monday.

The assembly aims to study and evaluate the sustainable development strategy known as the "21st Agenda" agreed at the Earth Summit held in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil in 1992.

A sustainable development summit will be held in Johannesburg, South Africa in September 2002 while Indonesia has been appointed to host a ministerial meeting ahead of the summit. (jun)
