Sutiyoso to be questioned in Ancol case

JAKARTA: Jakarta Prosecutors' Office chief Moeljohardjo said on Friday that the office would question Governor Sutiyoso next week as a witness in an alleged corruption case involving foreign trips conducted by city officials and councillors.

"We received the permission of the President on Tuesday to question the governor," he said.

Moeljohardjo claimed Sutiyoso will be questioned as a witness against three councillors who had earlier been declared suspects in the case.

Several city officials and councillors joined trips to Australia, Japan and South Korea financed from the city budget and city-owned firm PT Pembangunan Jaya Ancol in October 2000.

The prosecutor's office earlier named Tarmidi Suhardjo and Tarmidi Edy Suwarno of the Indonesian Democratic Party of Struggle and Ali Imran Hussein of the United Development Party, as suspects in the case.

The councillors have been accused of accepting the trip allowance although they did not join the trip. --JP
