Sutiyoso sings for charity

JAKARTA: Being the governor of Jakarta apparently would not help Sutiyoso launch a career as a singer, as his performance raised less than anticipated during a charity night to raise funds for elderly journalists and artists at the Jakarta Movie Center on Saturday.

Singing Words and I Started a Joke from pop group the Bee Gees, Sutiyoso's performance only raised Rp 13 million (US$1,548) although he had expected Rp 25 million.

The governor agreed to add Rp 12 million from his own pocket before noted singer/songwriter Titiek Puspa managed to persuade him to increase the donation to Rp 50 million.

Around 200 senior actors attended the charity night. -- Antara
