Sutiyoso awards young physicists

JAKARTA: Governor Sutiyoso awarded on Tuesday Rp 10 million (US$1,075) to each of five high school students who recently won a gold medal at the 17th International Young Physicists Tournament (IYPT) in Brisbane, Australia, from June 24 through July 1.

The five members of the team are Aldi Indra and Sandy Pratama from BPK Penabur 1 Christian high school, Wendy Siman from Tarakanita 2 high school and Abdullah Rasmita from SMU 8 and Muhammad Zuhdi from SMU 37, both state schools.

Kompas Cyber Media reported that during the occasion, Sutiyoso also met the 100-member Penabur children's choir, which will compete at the third Choir Olympics in Bremen, Germany, from July 7 through July 12. The choir will sing some Betawi (native Jakartan) folk songs including Kicir-kicir, Jali-jali and Ondel- ondel. -- JP
