Sutanto promoted to four-star general

JAKARTA: National Police chief candidate Sutanto has had his ranking moved up to a four-star general, ahead of his scheduled induction to the new post by President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono on Friday.

Sutanto, 54, who currently heads the country's antinarcotics agency, was installed as a police general during a ceremony on Thursday.

The House of Representatives endorsed Sutanto's appointment as the police chief, replacing Gen. Da'i Bachtiar on Tuesday. -- Antara
