Suspicious package found near Gambir

JAKARTA: A suspicious package thought to be a bomb was found by residents near Gambir railway station in front of the main gate of the Graha Migas building in Gambir, Central Jakarta.

A resident who noticed the package at 2:30 p.m. alerted nearby police officers, who in turn contacted the city police bomb squad.

Members of the bomb squad from Kelapa Dua, Depok, arrived about half an hour later and opened the package, which was tied with plastic string. The squad members found another box wrapped in paper inside the package.

Squad members put the box back into the package and took it to city police headquarters for further investigation.

Police, however, have not yet confirmed the contents of the package. --JP
