Suspended sentence sought for student
JAKARTA: Prosecutors demanded on Wednesday that Sahala Tua Napitupuluari, 20, be given a six-month suspended sentence for throwing stones at participants of a political party rally last March.
Prosecutor Trimo told the East Jakarta District Court that the student at Mpu Tantular University should be placed on 10 months' probation so as not to disrupt his studies. "The defendant is young ... his emotions are not yet stable."
In a previous session on Sept. 6, witnesses testified that they were passing in front of Mpu Tantular University on Jl. Ahmad Yani in a motorcycle convoy on March 30, when students began hurling stones at them. Two people taking part in the rally were injured in the attack.
The police arrested Napitupuluari, who was said to have instigated the stone throwing.
Presiding judge Anwar Byrin adjourned the trial until Oct. 6, at which time the court will hear from the defense. -- JP
