Suspects identified in major graft cases

JAKARTA: The interdepartmental anticorruption team says it has identified a number of suspects in suspected graft cases involving the State Secretariat.

However, team head Hendarman Supandji, who is also the deputy attorney general for special crimes, declined on Friday to publicly name them.

"I hope we can name the suspects later this month. We are still questioning witnesses in relation to these cases. I have also set up a special committee chaired by Daniel Tombe and told him to speed up the investigation," Hendarman said.

He said the team would gather more evidence before charging any suspects.

The team is expected to soon question former state secretary Ali Rahman about graft in the transfer of a land concession in the Bung Karno Sports Stadium complex to PT Indobuild, which is owned by businessman Pontjo Sutowo.

Another former state secretary, Muladi, was questioned on Tuesday about the same case. --JP
