Suspected killer arrested

JAKARTA (JP): Jakarta police detectives arrested on Friday the primary suspect in the murder of Silvy Maugpin, a French national who was robbed and murdered on Monday at her residence, on Jl. Madrasah II in Cilandak Timur, South Jakarta.

A police source identified the suspect as Budi Riyanto, who was arrested on Jl. Pangeran Antasari, South Jakarta.

"Budi is the boyfriend of one of Silvy's maidservants, Nursita," the source said.

He explained that the suspect, who is in his 30s, had returned after a date with Nur and went straight to the victim's bedroom.

"Budi did not hear Silvy coming in ... Silvy was shocked when she saw him rummaging through her things. She asked him what he was doing there," the source said.

"And Budi says that is when he killed her."

As reported earlier, the police were questioning four maids, including Nursita, a security guard and a gardener over the alleged murder of the foreign woman.

Police identified the victim as Silvy Maugpin, 39, a mother of three.

Her husband was in Singapore when the crime took place. The security guard and the gardener were off-duty. The maids claimed to have been asleep when the crime occurred.

"We are still questioning the suspect on how he killed her." (ylt)
