Suspect shot dead for attacking police
JAKARTA (JP): A team of city police mobile detectives unit shot dead a suspect on Saturday when the latter attacked a policeman with a machete.
First Insp. Supriyadi, the team leader, said that the victim, identified as Entong alias Otong, was a suspect in a violent car robbery on Jl. Nias Raya in Kelapa Gading housing complex, North Jakarta, in July 1999.
Supriyadi said that when police officers approached Otong, he attacked a policeman with a machete. "Police warned him and ordered him to put down his weapon, but he ignored the order," Supriyadi said.
Otong fell to the ground after one of the officers shot him in the chest and leg. He died on the way to the hospital.
The victim's two accomplices in the 1999 crime, Sadat alias Jack and Abu Bakar, are serving jail terms at Cipinang Penitentiary. (01)
