Susilo searched at the Marriott

JAKARTA: Security guards of the newly reopened JW Marriott Hotel made no exceptions for Coordinating Minister for Political and Security Affairs Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono, who visited the hotel on Wednesday.

After examining the car carrying Susilo, the security guards searched the minister and his guards, who were all military men. But no seizure of weapons were made.

The hotel reopened on Monday, more than a month after a bomb exploded in its compound, leaving 12 people dead and 147 injured.

Susilo said public and business facilities should apply tight security measures on all people, warning that a terror attack could take place at anytime and anywhere.

"All people, including state officials, have to accept the inspection as part of the preventive measures. Safety first is important," he said.

He added that the current trend among terrorists was to conduct suicide attacks using cars or vests. -- JP
