Susi Susanti has a baby girl

JAKARTA (JP): Former world number one shuttler Susi Susanti delivered a baby girl on Monday at 07.08 a.m. at Medistra Hospital, South Jakarta.

The 1992 Olympic gold medalist was accompanied by husband Alan Budikusuma during the caesarean. Named Laurencia Averina Wiratama, the baby weighed 3.2 kgs and measured 50 centimeters.

"I thank God my baby is unharmed and normal," said Susi, who was accompanied by her parents, Alan's parents and other relatives.

Alan, who was with his wife during the caesarean, said: "I was very nervous during the surgery, but now I'm so relieved as my wife and my daughter are safe".

Alan, also a 1992 Olympic gold medalist, could not recall the meaning of the baby's name. "I read it in a book at home and I can't remember (the meaning)."

Susi requested a caesarean because a friend of hers told her how difficult it was to find a doctor during last year's riots and the former shuttler did not want to take any chances. (yan)
