Surjadi opens karate meet

SEMARANG (JP): Minister of Home Affairs Surjadi Soedirdja
officially opened on Saturday the National Junior Karate
Championships at Jatidiri indoor stadium.

About 500 karatekas from the country's 24 provinces are
competing in the event, which is featuring eight age groups: 11,
12, 13, 14, 15, 16, 17 and 18.

Surjadi said in his speech that the championships should be
used as positive momentum to boost a fighting spirit and the
quality of the juniors to perform better in national or
