Surjadi laments lax attitude

JAKARTA (JP): Sub-district heads are giving people the wrong impression that he hates street traders, the Governor Surjadi Soedirdja said yesterday.

"Every time I conduct a visit to sub-district offices, street traders are routinely shunted out of sight along the routes passed by the city entourage, he said.

This is only "playacting," Surjadi said, and shows many sub- district heads do not understand the legitimacy of the city policy for a clean, orderly Jakarta.

He gave the statement in an installment of five new officials.

Surjadi also lamented the frequent complaints of officials when they are placed in different positions.

"Officials often say they still want to do something worthwhile, but they have not done anything yet..." he said.

Such civil servants have yet to understand that an organization needs to move people around to improve their outlook, Surjadi said.

The officials installed were Haswidi A. Taufik, the head of the museum and history agency, Purwanto H. Wibowo for the deputy of the board of regional planning and Hans Suhardjo as the head of the administration of sub-district heads.

Also installed were Susanto, the director of PD Dharma Jaya, the city company which runs animal husbandry, and Suahrdi, the director of the PT Food Station, the city company in charge of food logistics. (anr)
