Surjadi appeals religious unity

JAKARTA (JP): Jakarta Governor Surjadi Soedirdja appealed on
the religious communities yesterday to enhance unity because
unity was the main capital for development.

Inaugurating a mosque in Pasar Minggu, South Jakarta, Surjadi
said religious communities should not be provoked by rumors which
could divide them.

The At-Taqwa mosque was built by locals with the help of the
city administration which donated Rp 400 million of the Rp 1.5
billion mosque.

"Bloody riots involving religious communities in several towns
should not happen again," he said referring to recent riots.

The city administration has been trying to give proper
attention to religious life so harmony can be attained. (05/sur)
