Surakarta Mayor Cup for silat athletes

SEMARANG (JP): More than 150 pencak silat athletes have been taking part in a tournament to commemorate National Sports Day, the event's organizing committee secretary, Indro Catur, told reporters on Saturday.

The Mayor Cup is being held at the Manahan sports center, Surakarta, Central Java, from Friday through Sunday, with athletes coming from all over Java island.

"The tournament is to provide more experience for athletes as there have been only a few pencak silat competitions lately. We are also looking for new talent to fill the national squad," Indro said.

Indro also said athletes from outside Java were welcome to take part in the tournament. (nvn)
