Surakarta hosts supercross event
SURAKARTA, Central Java (JP): Surakarta will host the first leg of the national and international Gudang Garam Supercross Indonesia 2001 on Feb. 17 and Feb. 18.
"Supercross is a completely different event compared to motocross or grass track. It is more interesting and challenging," the chairman of the organizing committee, Helmy Sungkar, said on Thursday.
The first leg will feature Australian athletes Paul H. Stone in the 80cc division and Johnson Andrew in the 125cc class.
Local supercrossers Irwan Ardiansyah, Andi Suryanto, Satyo Sunarso, Asep Dadang and Fery Irawan will compete in both events.
The championships will offer Rp 18 million (US$1,895) in total prize money and feature eight classes. (har)
