Supreme Court hears Gus Dur's complaint
JAKARTA: The Supreme Court will consider the judicial review filed by former president Abdurrahan "Gus Dur" Wahid and the National Awakening Party (PKB) against a General Elections Commission (KPU) health exam ruling which is considered a stumbling block to his presidential bid.
The court is expected to deliver its decision before the registration period for presidential and vice presidential candidates ends on May 7, the court's spokesman John Dickson said on Tuesday.
KPU issued a regulation that requires presidential and vice presidential candidates to pass fairly stringent medical examinations, including an eye test. The ruling could prevent Gus Dur, who has impaired sight, from running for president. -- JP
