Superstore Giant opens in Serpong

JAKARTA: PT Hero Supermarket opened on Friday its first Rp 30 billion superstore in Serpong.

Ipung Kurnia, president of the company, said the Superstore Giant, located in Vila Melati Mas housing estate, is entirely owned by PT Hero, even though it is originally from Malaysia.

It employs 250 people, most of whom are from nearby areas.

Kurnia said the company also plans to open two other superstores, one in Bekasi and another one in Surabaya, East Java, investing Rp 30 billion in each of them.

Superstore Giant gets its merchandise from local suppliers, including small-scale and home industries as well as cooperatives.

Giant has been successfully developed in Malaysia and Singapore by Diary Farm International, which has 37 percent shares in PT Hero.

PT Hero, established here in 1972, is a publicly listed company. It has two divisions: the supermarket, which is the main business, and the department store and pharmacy.--JP
