Suparwati wins Bali half marathon race

JAKARTA (JP): Suparwati of Banyuwangi, East Java won the women's half-marathon race in Sanur, Bali on Sunday.

Suparwati, who comes from the East Java Indonesian Athletics Amateur Association's (PASI) regional office, finished the 21 kilometer race with the shortest time of one hour and 24.45 seconds.

For her victory, Suprawati received cash of Rp 500,000 and a Balinese carved trophy, Antara reported.

Hagiwara of Japan was in second place clocking 1.34:02 and third place went to Ni Ketut Suparni of Abiansemal, Badung with 1.39:02. Fourth and fifth places went to Yanagido of Japan with a time of 1.40.30 and Ni Ketut Parni of Bali with 1.40:36.

In the Fun Run five kilometer race, Japan won the top three places with Furkawa (20.22), Shoki (21.20) and T. Miyaba (22.04).

In the women's 10 kilometer marathon, Sumiati of East Java took first place clocking 39.57. Yuliawati was in second with a time of 41.49 and Lisa Hari Agustini of Jember in third with 43.18.

Two Balinese runners won first and second places in the 10 kilometer men's marathon with Ano with the quickest time of 29.12 and Jentus at 29.14. Ali Takir of East Java came in third with 32.36 and Made Anggara of Bali of 32.48.

About 719 runners participated in the Bali marathon -- 563 from Indonesia and 156 from Japan. (lnt)
