Sunu, Maya win junior tournament

The Jakarta Post, Jakarta

Top seed Sunu Wahyu Triaji continued his winning streak when he captured the boys' singles title of the inaugural Hemaviton Challenge junior tennis tournament here on Sunday.

Joining the U-18 category, Sunu thumped third-seeded Christian Adinata 6-1, 6-1 in the lopsided final matches at the Bung Karno Tennis Court in Central Jakarta.

Maya Rosa, who was also the top seed at the tournament, took the girls' title with a convincing 6-1, 6-0 victory over third- seeded Nancy Metriya.

The two opponents then teamed up to win the doubles with a 6- 1, 6-2 victory over Cecilia Isadora/Mega Sukmawati.

Sunu's victory came on the heels of his international-level triumph at the International Tennis Federation (ITF) Junior Championship here last week.

"I was relaxed during the match like I usually am during training. Christian seemed too tired and he regularly made mistakes," Sunu told the official Antara news agency. He will go overseas next week as he plans to take part in a championship in Malaysia before continuing on to Thailand.

The final match of boys' doubles, which should have paired Bramadita Dian Trisna and Sandy Purnomo against Armendio Anggara and Jonathan Amdanu, was scrapped with organizers announcing that Sandy Purnomo and Jonathan Amdanu had left for Malaysia for an ITF junior event.

In the U-14 competition, the singles' title went to Agung Bagus Dewantoro and Mia Sacca. In the finals, Bagus beat Fendy Gunawan 6-1, 6-0 in the boys' category while Mia stopped Lutfiana Aris Budiarto 6-2, 6-1 in the girls' event.

Mia and Vivien Silfiani defeated Juan Rosalia and Juan Rosalina 6-1, 6-2 in the final of the girls' doubles category, while Christopher Rungkat and Fendy Gunawan crushed Dwi Asmara and Eko Septian 6-0, 6-0 in the boys' match.

The second series of the tournament will be staged from June 4 to June 10. The top 16 players from the two series will qualify for the Master Series and will compete for the grand prize of free transportation and accommodation for international tournaments.
